Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of “tuning” a website so that it will rank higher in organic search listings (non-paid positions within the results page of a search engine).

Google, Yahoo and Bing, along with the other search engines make use of an ever-evolving algorithm that tries it’s best to display the website that best fits the exact wording of the search terms entered by the user. To do this the algorithm sends out bots that read every page of every website and index them according the parameters set out by the algorithm. Anything that slows the bot down or is not set to make the bots crawl more efficiently lowers that pages relevancy. The corollary is true for clean code, optimized images and fresh and regular content updates.

SEO involves the optimization of a number of elements within a website along with a myriad of other additions and modifications. Each site must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine what is involved.
